Ah! This makes me want to learn to knit so I can send a care package. How do the penguins in rehab feel about peanut-butter cookies. I make really good homemade ones with the big mixer. (you can’t make homemade peanut-butter cookies with a hand mixer, unless you want to burn the bearings out inside of about 10 minutes).

My Mom used to knit for the missions and the hospitals, but since she moved up here, she hasn’t connected with anyone who needs simple things knitted in volume. She really enjoyed it.

She needs activities that help get a sense of contribution.

Any old ladies you know may be interested in this?

If you follow the links to penguinfoundation.org you can give a monetary donation or even sponsor a penguin. Not sure how penguins feel about human food, maybe a care package for the workers?

re: #2 FemNaziBitch

I’ve seen requests for sweaters in the past but by the time I saw the article the link had been removed so I always missed the pattern. I’m not that old, but I do occasionally knit for charity. I’m not sure where ‘up here’ is, shelters and children’s hospitals might have programs that would use hats or small blankets to give out. Salvation army accepts hats, they give them out when the weather gets cold. Possibly the only thing they give out with no questions asked. Some women’s clinics use knitted boobs to teach first time mothers how to nurse babies. Chemo cap patterns are around teh web as well although I’m not sure if it’s the hospitals, clinics or support groups that give them to people going through chemo, but something for you to check. (My new computer is still a work in progress, the archives are currently off line while I tweek my OS)
